Farewell and Good Luck to Our Dear Dr. Peaslee

Thursday, July 20th, 2017

It is with sad hearts, but also a great deal of encouragement and best wishes, that we announce our own Dr. Alan Peaslee is leaving South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners for a position in Huntsville, Alabama as the Center Director for Vision America Huntsville.

For a few years now, Dr. Peaslee and his wife, Pat, have been trying to discern what direction they wanted to take for the next phase of their lives.  They have spent 30 years raising their children and developing their careers, for the first time, it’s truly about what they as a couple are feeling led to do.

After much consideration – including knowing all of Dr. Peaslee’s wife’s family lives within 45 minutes of the area as well as their son, Jason; and, the move puts them closer to Dr. Peaslee’s family, it felt like the right time to make a move.  The Peaslees will be moving into the family home where Pat grew up which brings things full circle.

“I could not leave for just any position.  I am going to a center where I will be called upon to use all the skills and experience of my last 28 years of practice to help serve a referral network of over 60 optometrists,” says Dr. Peaslee.  “My role, along with our ophthalmologists, will be to provide consultative care for the patients that our referring doctors are unable to care for. My experience at South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners will be put to good use.”

Dr. Peaslee went on to say, “This decision is about what is best for our family, for Pat and I as a couple, and our extended family.  It is the deep relationship with Dr. Scott Petermann, this SGEP practice, all of you, and my patients that has made this decision so hard.  I will miss all of you very much.”

In closing, Dr. Peaslee had this to say, “I truly appreciate the experience and opportunity I had to be part of South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners.  However, when I retreat to my quiet place and carefully listen to my heart and the Holy Spirit, I find peace with this decision.”

Part of Dr. Peaslee’s peace with this decision is knowing that after he leaves, there is a team of good doctors at SGEP who will continue to care for his patients after his departure.

We wish you luck and happiness, Dr. Alan Peaslee!  We have been very blessed to have you as a part of our South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners family for so long.  We will miss you.

2015-08-01 19.56.27South Georgia Eye Partners’ Dr. Alan Peaslee was recently recognized for his nearly 35 years of military service, and is officially retiring from his position as Medical Operations Officer for the 201st Homeland Response Force (HRF) under the Georgia National Guard.  Lieutenant Colonel Peaslee began his military career in 1984 in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps and was a Distinguished Military Graduate of Knox College in Illinois.

Peaslee continued to serve throughout his educational career at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  His military assignments took him everywhere from Texas to Kentucky and Iowa to Saudi Arabia.  After coming to Georgia in 1998 as the Chief of Optometry Services for the 116th Air Control Wing, Air National Guard at Robins AFB, Peaslee continued to serve the Air National Guard and Georgia National Guard until his retirement this month.

The major awards and decorations Dr. Peaslee received throughout his military career are too numerous to mention, but they do include the Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Georgia Meritorious Service Medal with Boar Head and the Chief Biomedical Science Corps Badge.

Because of Dr. Scott Petermann’s respect and admiration for our military, Dr. Peaslee was able to serve double duty as both active member of the military and one of the lead optometrists at South Georgia Eye Partners.  SGEP is honored to have Dr. Peaslee on staff and is thrilled that he will continue on as a practicing board certified optometrist in our offices.

Congratulations to our colleague and friend on such a distinguished military career, and we look forward to having you in our offices for years to come.

WoW! I can see..

A little over a month ago I had Intralase. I have had to depend on glasses ever since I was nine years old. So, when the opportunity to have the corrective surgery, especially Intralase, at the age of twenty-two arose I jumped on it. I am so glad that I did. Intralase is the best decision I have ever made. Dr. Petermann explained the procedure to me and made sure that I understood all about it.

Of course when the big day arrived I was NERVOUS, who wouldn’t be. Once the procedure got started I relaxed and saw that there was nothing to it. I was amazed that when I got up from the table I could see. The rest of that day and night I took it easy resting my eyes and keeping them closed, so to heal properly.

Later on that night I opened my eyes and could see a clock across the room. That is when it hit me “WOW, I can see without my glasses or contacts!!” You couldn’t get me to stop smiling. Everyone that I would see I would tell them about Intralase and how it changed my life. I would and do recommend Intralase to anyone and everyone! Intralase is the best and Dr. Petermann and his techs are the best to do it! 🙂
