iLASIK: “Now I can put my best foot forward without my eyes holding me back.”

Thursday, February 15th, 2018

Would getting rid of contacts or glasses for good change your life?  For McClain Talley, iLASIK surgery did just that – no more contacts, and a much better quality of life. South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners offers the latest in iLASIK technology, and our physicians are second to none.

McClain is a recent graduate of UGA and just starting her real estate career. Before iLASIK, “I never felt comfortable in my contacts,” she says. “My eyes were constantly irritated and it caused me to feel tired.”

After iLASIK surgery performed by Dr. Scott Petermann, McClain (whose recovery time was less than one day) – could see clearly without the use of her contact lenses. “I could not be happier. It’s incredible. Now I can put my best foot forward without my eyes holding me back.” Watch her video below to see McClain’s story.

For people who have refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, iLASIK surgery could be the solution.  The latest in laservision correction technology, iLASIK (laster-assisted in situ keratomileusis), uses a laser to cut the corneal flap instead of a traditional blade.
Dr. Scott Petermann and Dr. Wes Ross with South Georgia Eye Partners perform iLASIK surgery in our Valdosta location (at our new state-of-the-art surgery center).  Consultations and post-operative care is available in all of our locations: Tifton, Valdosta, Douglas, Moultrie and Madison, FL.

We are happy to answer any questions you might have in order to find out if you are a good candidate for the procedure.  For patients who aren’t candidates for iLASIK, we offer PRK.  Call us to make an appointment – you could be on your way to better eyesight in no time – just like McClain!

iLASIK Surgery – “It simplified my life.”

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

PrintWould getting rid of contacts or glasses for good make your life a little easier?  South Georgia Eye Partners offers the latest iLASIK technology, and our physicians are top-notch. Alice Johnson is a perfect example of how iLASIK surgery can literally simplify your life.

Alice is extremely involved in missionary work, and has traveled as far as Uganda to help underprivileged communities through her church.  She noticed on one such mission trip that keeping up with her contacts – cleaning them, changing them out daily, etc. – was proving to be quite a hassle when traveling overseas.  Alice happened to be on the mission trip with Dr. Wes Ross, and they began discussing her eligibility for iLASIK.  They both decided she was a great candidate for the surgery.

Wes Ross with South Georgia Eye Partners perform iLASIK surgery in our Valdosta location (at our brand new surgery center).  Consultations and post-operative care is available in all of our locations: Tifton, Valdosta, Douglas and Madison, FL.  We are happy to answer any questions you might have in order to find out if you are a good candidate for the procedure.  For patients who aren’t candidates for iLASIK, we offer PRK.  Call us to make an appointment – you could be on your way to better eyesight in no time – just like Alice!

June: Cataract Awareness Month

Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Senior Showcase Aug 18June is Cataract Awareness Month, and South Georgia Eye Partners is committed to keeping our patients educated about early detection, treatment and available corrective surgeries.  Most people over 65 have some degree of cataract development. A cataract is the gradual clouding of the natural lens that is inside your eye.  In order for the eye to work properly, it needs a clear lens to focus light on the retina.

Cataracts, the leading cause of preventable blindness, develop when the eye’s lens becomes cloudy which impairs vision.  Surgery to remove the old lens and replace it with a new, clear lens is an effective method for improving poor eyesight due to cataract development.

South Georgia Eye Partners’ own Dr. Scott Petermann now performs LenSx® – a blade-free, laser-assisted cataract surgery.

This new technology is an advanced alternative to traditional cataract surgery, which utilizes surgical blades.  LenSx® provides the surgeon with micron-level precision and improved predictability.  The procedure is tailored to the surgeon’s specifications and delivers a remarkable degree of accuracy.  By creating the incisions and fragmenting the clouded lens with LenSx®, the surgeon creates a precise opening for the new lens to be optimally positioned.

SGEP performs cataract surgery with LenSx® as an outpatient procedure at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.  Pre-op and post-op visits for South Georgia Eye Partners patients can be scheduled in Valdosta, Tifton, and Douglas.  Our South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners patients can schedule their visits at our Madison location.    To learn more, click here.
