Eye Partners Offices Participate in Giving Tuesday

Friday, December 7th, 2018

South Georgia/ North Florida first wants to begin by saying how proud we are of each of our offices for embracing #givingtuesday! We hope to make this part of our annual tradition at SGNF Eye Partners during the holiday season moving forward. Each office has been so proactive in this project and has given back in such BIG ways!

The Tifton office donated to the Tifton Rehabilitation Center items such as blankets, grip socks, games, and books. Staff will be offering up their cosmetology skills, while others will clean glasses and adjust frames, all spending quality time with the residents/patients.

Our Moultrie office donated food to the oncology department at Tift Regional for those patients and their families. Thanks ladies for your golden hearts!

Madison is collecting canned food items for donation to Dr. Hill’s church in Tallahassee, FL. Thank you Madison for your support and giving hearts.

Valdosta collected hygiene products and put together individual gift bags filled with toothpaste, toothbrushes, germx, deodorant, and bottled water to donate to Project Rescue Outreach Ministries who will use these gift bags as they help out the homeless here in Valdosta. Valdosta is also hosting a special clinic Friday afternoon for the women and children of The Haven battered women’s shelter. Proud of you Valdosta for the effort and time you’re donating in giving back to your community in such a meaningful way!

Last, but certainly not least, Douglas has also been busy with their #givingtuesday initiative. They spent time with the residents of Vista Park assisted living home, placed American Flags in downtown Douglas as part of the Lion’s Club initiative honoring and saluting our veterans, and lastly – donating time ringing the salvation army bell.

Our Eye Partners offices continue to be such a shining light in our communities!

State-of-the-Art Surgery Center Dedicated to Your Needs

Wednesday, July 25th, 2018

Delivering the latest eye care technology to our patients is important to the physicians at South Georgia / North Florida Eye Partners. We specialize in advanced eye surgeries – such as iLASIK surgery and laser assisted cataract surgery – and stay on the cutting edge of technology that results in better care for our patients. We achieve the optimal experience for our patients through our surgeons, staff and our state-of-the-art surgery center in Valdosta.

Our surgery center – dedicated solely to ophthalmologic procedures – was completed in 2017 and is outfitted with the latest in surgical technology. With a surgery center in Valdosta, patients can receive pre-op and post-op care as well as undergo their actual procedures without having to be admitted into the hospital.

“Being able to perform the types of surgeries that we do for our patients in a state-of-the art facility and in a location that is convenient for them means everything,” says ophthalmologist Dr. Wes Ross. “The patient is the most important part of our practice, and I love knowing we provide top notch service and care.”

Eye Partners provide the expertise, experience, and technology to our patients in South Georgia and North Florida who would otherwise have to travel a much greater distance. Eye Partners’ team of ophthalmologists, Dr. Scott Petermann, Dr. Wes Ross, and Dr. Garrett Webster (joining our practice in August of this year), perform iLASIK surgery and cataract surgery with LenSx® as outpatient procedures at our state-of-the-art surgery center in Valdosta. Pre-op and post-op visits for our patients can be scheduled at any of our locations: Tifton, Valdosta, Douglas, Moultrie, and Madison, FL.

Farewell and Good Luck to Our Dear Dr. Peaslee

Thursday, July 20th, 2017

It is with sad hearts, but also a great deal of encouragement and best wishes, that we announce our own Dr. Alan Peaslee is leaving South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners for a position in Huntsville, Alabama as the Center Director for Vision America Huntsville.

For a few years now, Dr. Peaslee and his wife, Pat, have been trying to discern what direction they wanted to take for the next phase of their lives.  They have spent 30 years raising their children and developing their careers, for the first time, it’s truly about what they as a couple are feeling led to do.

After much consideration – including knowing all of Dr. Peaslee’s wife’s family lives within 45 minutes of the area as well as their son, Jason; and, the move puts them closer to Dr. Peaslee’s family, it felt like the right time to make a move.  The Peaslees will be moving into the family home where Pat grew up which brings things full circle.

“I could not leave for just any position.  I am going to a center where I will be called upon to use all the skills and experience of my last 28 years of practice to help serve a referral network of over 60 optometrists,” says Dr. Peaslee.  “My role, along with our ophthalmologists, will be to provide consultative care for the patients that our referring doctors are unable to care for. My experience at South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners will be put to good use.”

Dr. Peaslee went on to say, “This decision is about what is best for our family, for Pat and I as a couple, and our extended family.  It is the deep relationship with Dr. Scott Petermann, this SGEP practice, all of you, and my patients that has made this decision so hard.  I will miss all of you very much.”

In closing, Dr. Peaslee had this to say, “I truly appreciate the experience and opportunity I had to be part of South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners.  However, when I retreat to my quiet place and carefully listen to my heart and the Holy Spirit, I find peace with this decision.”

Part of Dr. Peaslee’s peace with this decision is knowing that after he leaves, there is a team of good doctors at SGEP who will continue to care for his patients after his departure.

We wish you luck and happiness, Dr. Alan Peaslee!  We have been very blessed to have you as a part of our South Georgia/North Florida Eye Partners family for so long.  We will miss you.

Dr. Wes Ross Receives Board Certification

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

RossSouth Georgia Eye Partners is pleased to announce Dr. Wes Ross, a Tift County native and ophthalmologist with SGEP, recently received board certification in ophthalmology. After graduating from medical school at Mercer University in Macon, Dr. Ross completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He then came home to practice at South Georgia Eye Partners as an ophthalmologist.

“The process for board certification takes much longer in ophthalmology than many other fields of medicine,” Dr. Ross explained. In fact, after completing an accredited ophthalmology residency program, candidates must sit for the “Written Qualifying Exam.” The purpose of this is to test the breadth and depth of clinical and basic science knowledge gathered during residency. The exam lasts around five hours, and if the candidate passes, the physician then takes oral board examinations designed to demonstrate clinical and patient care abilities. These boards take place either in San Francisco or Boston and are an intensive half-day of discussing 60 clinical scenarios with a panel of ophthalmologists. Dr. Ross took his oral boards in June of 2015 and received the news that he passed in July.

“Because of the robust nature of the residency program I completed, I’m comfortable examining and treating a wide variety of patients,” says Dr. Ross. “I treat refractive diseases like cataracts (including premium lenses) and perform iLASIK and PRK for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.”

Dr. Ross also treats glaucoma with in-office lasers and performs other OR-based surgeries including some of the latest micro-invasive stents. Eyelid and brow lifts, are among the more popular ocuplastic treatments he performs, in addition to correcting a wide variety of eyelid issues with surgery or BOTOX®.

“I spend most of my time in the Tifton office of South Georgia Eye Partners, but I also see patients in our Douglas, Cordele, and Sylvester locations,” says Dr. Ross. “I perform surgeries at Tift Regional, Coffee Regional, and Crisp Regional.”

Dr. Ross is part of an impressive team at South Georgia Eye Partners. Scott Petermann, M.D. is also a board-certified ophthalmologist; and, Dr. Alan Peaslee, Dr. Eric Kolisz, Dr. Valerie Ferrell, and Dr. Melanie Hill are all board-certified optometrists in the practice, which has offices in Tifton, Valdosta, and Douglas, Georgia as well as Madison, Florida.

The journey to board certification was worthwhile and one that Dr. Ross completed with the goal of serving patients in south Georgia and north Florida with the best training possible.   Ross and his wife, Shannon, live in Tifton and have three children – sons Jay and Eli and a new daughter, June.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. Ross or one of the other physicians, call the office nearest to you.
